On Wednesday evening, March 4th, the AHSIE Council voted to move its 2020 Annual Meeting to a virtual platform. We have made this choice out of an abundance of caution and believe it is the correct decision given the evolving public health concerns in Florida and across the country. The AHSIE board has closely watched the developing situation and the potential risk to the well-being of our students, presenters and attendees. This is something AHSIE takes very seriously.
In response to not hosting an in-person conference, AHSIE will adopt cutting-edge technology through Shindig that will allow everyone registered to “attend” the conference from the comfort of their home or office. Participants can still ask questions of presenters and interact with other participants through this innovative virtual platform. The sessions will still occur as planned and an updated schedule will be posted via our website. You can also access conference sessions and materials through the mobile app “Attendify” (click on “AHSIE 2020” to gain access to the conference schedule and other relevant areas).
With this change in platform, we are able to provide a refund of $100 to all paid registered participants to help offset travel cancellation costs. We are working with the Bonaventure hotel to credit back room cancellation costs. Please cancel your hotel reservation immediately as we are not permitted to do this on your behalf. Please also note that some major airlines are waiving cancellation costs due to the COVID-19/Coronavirus outbreak. We also suggest that you notify your airline immediately.
We will be communicating directly to presenters within the next 24 hours to provide details on preparing to present virtually. We’ll also be communicating to conference attendees information on how to access the virtual conference. Shindig is a powerful tool that is much more than simply video streaming…it’s truly a collaborative experience that we are confident will provide a learning and networking opportunity similar to the in-person conference experience that makes AHSIE unique. We look forward to seeing you virtually in the coming days!
Very truly yours,
Kevin B. Vichcales, Ph.D., AHSIE President (2018-2020)
Jeannie G. Kim, Ph.D., AHSIE Co-President Elect (2020-2022)
Leticia P. López, Ph.D., AHSIE Co-President Elect (2020-2022)
